Since its dawn in the 2000s, there has been a sense that contemporary dance in Japan does not necessarily abide by any specific set of rules, and is approached with an 'anything goes' attitude. Due to the large degree of freedom and no history or organization to rely on, contemporary dance became a facade; something only enjoyed by those actively involved in the contemporary dance scene. The true nature of dance in Japan has been lost. With all of that in mind, we set out to explore the connection between audience and performer, and in extension, the current state of society. With the massive influx of immigrants in recent years, there is a message we want to send out as residents of Japan. Please join us on this journey of exile, self-exploration and self-explanation. Since its dawn in the late 1980s, there has been a sense that contemporary dance in Japan does not necessarily abide by any specific set of rules, and is approached with an 'anything goes' attitude. Due to the large degree of freedom and no history or organization to rely on, contemporary dance became a facade; something only enjoyed by those actively involved in the contemporary dance scene.
